Picture: Like Cats and Dogs

I will comfort you (ooo)
I’ll take your part, oh, when darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

Video – Italian Coast Guard Saves a Kitten

We have had several cats as pets and anyone who has had a relationship with a cat can tell you that there is definitely a type of “yin and yang” to that relationship. Most cats, and this included ours, are fairly aloof although they do like attention when they want it and on their terms.

Cats can be very funny as they show tremendous courage on one hand and can be afraid of their shadow on the other. We do find them to be lovable as long as one can accept their distant character. (This is a generalization and of course there are exceptions!)

The video below shows members of the Italian Coast Guard resuscitating a kitten that was in danger of drowning. While it looks more like a wet rat during the recovery phase, the other pictures show how cute it is.

These coast guardsmen should be commended for showing such humanity in giving a high level of importance to this relatively incidental life when compared to the human trauma they see on a daily basis. This is one lucky kitten!

Kitten Kaboodle

My wife and I have had a couple of cats as pets and I must admit that dogs ARE more lovable and warm and fuzzy, but there is still something quite attractive and mysterious about cats.

Our last cat was Kitty Carlisle (KC) named after a popular TV and game show personality of the 1950’s – 60’s. I guess I am showing my age a bit here. At first when we mentioned the name of the cat some people who were a bit older would smile knowingly. Now we rarely get any recognition whatsoever so it is just a cute cat name.

Here is a picture of Carlisle enjoying her favorite pastime and perhaps a favorite of every cat!

KC didn’t always sleep. Sometimes she just rested. Here she is in an open fall window enjoying the last warm breezes of autumn. Yes, that is a towel under her. You wouldn’t want her to lay down on a hard, uneven window sill would you?

If you happened to walk in on her and disturb her routine such as when cleaning herself while sitting in the papasan chair, she would stare you down.

One of her very favorite times was when my wife would bring a towel straight from the clothes dryer to assure that she had a warm cozy place to…what else…Nap!

We also enjoy cartoons, drawings, poems and other creative works featuring cats and lucky for me, I live with a quilter. If you are not familiar with Laurel Burch, she has some fantastic, multi-colored and often nearly psychedelic designs. As luck would have it, I think she liked cats too.

Here is one of her squares of a cat family with a very loving kitten.

This conservative cat family seems very organized and I guess they have a routine.

Although Kitty Carlisle is no longer with us, her spirit remains strong within us and we still have a feline affinity, as you can probably tell.

Frozen Kitten is Life in the Raw via Go Pro

I enjoy photography because it enables me to capture a moment in time that will never be exactly the same again. Videography, however has not appealed to me, but when I see footage like the video below, I appreciate how a live action cam enables us to witness life in its raw form.

Although this is an advertisement for GoPro, let us assume that it is true and because of that provides the viewer with a first-hand glimpse of nature, emotion, caring and human kindness. That’s the key phrase,; “first-hand!”

From the notes accompanying the video:

Published on Dec 14, 2015

“On a cold Thanksgiving morning, Branden Bingham and his family stumbled upon a seemingly frozen kitten buried in the snow. In an attempt to save his life, they rushed inside and began performing CPR on the lifeless cat. ”
