Vide-Ohs: Mother and Puppy Heartbreak

This video shows a Golden Retriever mom trying to keep her last puppy hidden and out of site to prevent the pup from being adopted. The interaction is heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time.

This mom, even in her state of anxiety, appears gentle and kind and the love for her baby is obvious!

Vide_Ohs: Net Neutrality – A Whopper of a Story

If anyone has difficulty understanding the concept of Net Neutrality, Burger King has created a short video which delivers a metaphoric explanation of the idea.

Here are the notes from the YouTube Page:

BURGER KING – Published on Jan 24, 2018

The repeal of Net Neutrality is a hot topic in America, but it can be very difficult to understand. That’s why the BURGER KING® brand created WHOPPER® Neutrality, a social experiment that explains the effects of the repeal of Net Neutrality by putting it in terms anyone can understand: A WHOPPER® sandwich.

This effort aims to help people understand how the repeal of Net Neutrality will impact their lives.

The BURGER KING® brand believes the Internet should be like the WHOPPER® sandwich: the same for everyone.

Help keep Net Neutrality safe by signing the petition at Change.org/SavetheNet

Vide-Ohs: Scotch – Not Straight Up

Over the weekend we dined with some friends at a popular local restaurant. One of the people in our party ordered a glass of scotch, neat.

When the drink arrived and was placed on the table, it appeared to be tipping over and all of the diners quickly reached for the glass to prevent a spill. I guess the joke was on us because the glass was designed to wobble in place when set on a flat surface. Upon inspection, we could see a bubble on the bottom-center of the glass.

It was quite interesting. Here is a brief video:

When the wait staff returned, we remarked about the glass and they said that they don’t have spills although it does cause some interesting experiences.

Vide-Ohs: Dust in the Blood (Hiking the Grand Canyon)

JBRish readers know that one thing we enjoy and write about on this blog is hiking and exploring natural places. We appreciate all forms of wildlife and types of terrain, but the mountains and canyons have a special pull on our adventurous spirit.

The Grand Canyon is indeed one of earth’s treasures and it is a shame that mankind has tried to take advantage of its bounty by harvesting natural resources and obliterating some of the pristine beauty.

Below is just one photograph I took on our visit to the North Rim. It was taken with a very simple point-and-shoot camera with only 8 megapixels of resolution when most of today’s cameras start at twice that number and many go to three or four times that and beyond.

North rim of the Grand Canyon near the Lodge

Even with the limited ability of the camera and the photographer, I think you will agree that this is a pretty, colorful picture taken near “the Lodge” at the north rim of the Grand Canyon.

I am also sharing the trailer to the movie Dust in the Blood detailing the journey of filmmaker/photographer Pete McBride and writer Kevin Fedark as they try to hike the 750 mile length of the Grand Canyon.

Dust in the Blood – Trailer from Pete McBride on Vimeo.

From the Vimeo web page hosting the trailer:

In 2016 filmmaker/photographer Pete McBride and writer Kevin Fedarko set out on a 750-mile journey on foot through the entire length of the Grand Canyon. From the outset, the challenge was far more than they bargained for. More people have stood on the moon than have completed a continuous through hike of the Canyon. McBride and Fedarko took a sectional approach, achieving a feat that many adventurers have taken decades to complete. Others have lost their lives trying. But their quest was more than just an endurance test – it was also a way to draw attention to the unprecedented threats facing one of our most revered landscapes.

Throughout their passage, McBride and Fedarko encountered an astonishingly diverse and powerful landscape, rich in history, that is now facing perhaps the gravest crisis in the 98-year history of the Grand Canyon National Park.

Directed by Pete McBride and produced by the award-winning team at Insignia Films, THE CANYON is a story of extreme physical hardship that stretches the bonds of friendship and a meditation on the timeless beauty of this sacred place. It is an urgent warning about the environmental dangers that are placing one of America’s greatest monuments in peril and a cautionary tale for our complex relationship with the natural world.

Vide-Ohs: Dogs Just Want to Have Winter Fun!

This dog has learned the trick of hauling an empty sled uphill to be able to experience the thrill of speeding downhill. I think the administration of an IQ test is in order to see if this canine can assume more intellectual tasks! What do you think?

Vide-Ohs:800 Hundred Pound Elephant in the Room; Really!

Man often thinks that he is master of the universe, but sometimes nature and fate get in the way. These elephants will not be denied as they walk through a hotel lobby to arrive at one of their favorite dining spots regardless of what else is happening. I guess all occupants have learned to make way for elephants!

**NOTE** The start of the video is intentionally “jumpy,” but soon goes to regular, clear, colorful video that one would anticipate.

The Elephants that came to dinner | Mfuwe Lodge, Zambia

At a five-star lodge in Zambia, a bizarre phenomenon is stumping wildlife experts and delighting tourists. An elephant family, led by a matriarch named Wonky Tusk, is overtaking the lobby. Though elephants can be violent in the wild, here they climb the stairs of Mfuwe Lodge and grace past reception without bumping a chair. Why the paradox? Wildlife cameraman Nathan Pilcher is on a mission to find out. What he discovers may reveal elephants to be far more intelligent than we could’ve imagined.

Vide-Ohs: HS Dance Magic via the Wizard of OZ

To think that this performance was executed by high school students is astounding! This would be impressive if it were performed professionally on Broadway or at a Las Vegas venue. Everyone involved with this production should be saluted.

The choreography, dancing, scenery, etc. is wonderful and very well done. You will soon forget this was a hs gymnasium and I can guarantee that if you enjoy dancing and music, you will savor this masterpiece.
