Photography: My Shot – Reflections on Dinner

I have always been interested in lighting, shadows and reflections. Most of us have probably looked at reflections of ourselves in a glass ball, a jar or perhaps a glass doorknob and became interested, if not fascinated, about the distorted representation of ourselves.

I recently returned to a restaurant we like which has a great view of the Phoenix, AZ valley. As a matter of fact, the restaurant is called Different Pointe of View. It is part of the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs complex in the Moon Valley section of Phoenix. The hotel and restaurant sit on a mountain top.

While we were dinning, the sun set and as I looked at the view of the valley in the large glass windows, not only could I see the city lights, I could see the reflection of our dinner table and it was mesmerizing.

The coffee cups and teapot are very discernable as are the two frontmost glases of water. What makes the photo most interesting to me is the reflection of the two people in the foreground combined with a view of the distant city lights. When I consider this was taken with my iPhone, I am pleased with the abstract result.

Amazing Picture of Cyclist’s Leg Veins

Many of us have probably had the experience of having blood drawn and having the technician ask us to make a fist. What does making a fist actually do? If you make a fist, it increases the prominence of the vein.

If pumping a fist does that, what can we assume happens to the legs of a cyclist in race such as the Tour de France?

Vide-Ohs: Scotch – Not Straight Up

Over the weekend we dined with some friends at a popular local restaurant. One of the people in our party ordered a glass of scotch, neat.

When the drink arrived and was placed on the table, it appeared to be tipping over and all of the diners quickly reached for the glass to prevent a spill. I guess the joke was on us because the glass was designed to wobble in place when set on a flat surface. Upon inspection, we could see a bubble on the bottom-center of the glass.

It was quite interesting. Here is a brief video:

When the wait staff returned, we remarked about the glass and they said that they don’t have spills although it does cause some interesting experiences.

Halloween Porsche (October 2017) – Oh My!

Today’s Halloween Pictures

An orange and black Halloween Porsche

Seeing a Porsche in a parking lot in North Scottsdale is not unusual, but seeing one that is orange and black just in time for the Halloween season is something special.

Too bad the lighting was so poor. The deep black against the bright orange really produced an eye-catching view!

The photo below, courtesy of tapatalk.com, shows the “real” colors of this beautiful machine!

SignEdge: Prisoner and Blindfold Wines

Blindfold Wine Label

The Prisoner Wine Company has some unique labels for their wines. A marketing student could develop an interesting thesis discussing the popularity of wines based on their labels. Do colorful labels attract more purchasers? Do macabre labels attract buyers? Do the names of the wines grab attention?

Yesterday I spotted a wine called Blindfold. The label appears to be of a man tied to a post being readied for execution. The label may be thought more suitable for a red wine while Blindfold is a white blend.

Blindfold Wine Label

“They thought if he couldn’t see the world, then he wouldn’t make his mark. But a blindfold won’t hold him back. It just heightens his other senses. And whether they like it or not, his resilience will leave a lasting impression.”

From the Tasting Notes:

“ABOUT THE WINE –

In establishing our own spin on a white blend, we seek out interesting Rhône and aromatic varietals that nicely complement a classic Chardonnay base. We partner with growers dedicated to cultivating alternative varietals in their outstanding vineyard sites to create an intriguing wine with bold flavor.”

The Prisoner Wine Company, has a self-named red companion wine called The Prisoner.

“The Prisoner crossed a line. He spoke out of turn. He took a stand. His brazen actions bred consequences. But while his chains may hold his weight, his mind wanders unrestrained. For he remains unapologetically bold.”

From the Tasting Notes:

“ABOUT THE WINE –

The Prisoner was inspired by the “mixed blacks” first made by the Italian immigrants who originally settled in Napa Valley. The Prisoner is now the most recognized Napa Valley red blend, leading the resurgence of interesting blends by incorporating Zinfandel with the unlikely”

I have written about other wine labels and companies (see the link below) that I found somewhat unique. Would you be attracted to try the wine by these particular labels? Feel free to leave your thoughts in a comment below.
