I feel fortunate to live in an area that attracts quite a few hummingbirds and some are year-round residents. The beautiful video below has some magnificent footage of these aerial acrobats.
Just as fascinating are all the facts about hummingbirds. Did you know they have the largest heart per animal size?
From the video’s website:
Over 20 amazing Facts about Hummingbirds. Slow motion footage of the hummingbird in Full HD. Great for school nature projects. Watch hummingbirds fly in ULTRA slow motion. Watch the humming bird (the hummer) hover and fly backwards in slow motion. Videos of hummingbird babies (chicks) being fed. Learn about the hummingbird tongue and it’s eating habits. Discover how fast it’s heart beats and how fast it’s wings beat.
The white hummingbird can be leucistic or albino. The leucistic hummingbird has partial loss of pigmentation so it’s not totally white and can be a little patchy in places. The very rare albino hummingbird is totally white with pink eyes, beak and feet.
The colibri (hummingbird) is a sacred bird for the Taino Indians because it is a pollinator and as such, brings life.

Ray Villafane, internationally acclaimed sculptor, pumpkin carver and magic maker, shares tips and tricks to take your Jack-o-Lantern to the next level.
NOTE – I have attended two Pumpkin Carving Celebrations at Cave Creek’s Sundial Garden and Ray Villafane was the main sculptor/teacher each time. His work is beyond excellent. He carves more than pumpkins. His sand carvings are outrageously detailed!
Here are a few of my blog posts with some of his amazing pumpkin creations:

The BBC presents an interesting study of a Puffer Fish that constructs an amazing lair to entice an impressed female to be his mate. How this small fish can construct such a massive, finely detailed creation under water is hard to fathom (pun intended of course).
I am sure you will agree!

I found the video below quite mesmerizing and I think you will as well. I have to admit up front that I am a bird person. I enjoy casual birdwatching and photographing the wide variety of avian creatures nature has gifted to us.
What makes this video so interesting, in my opinion, is not only the exotic variety of intriguing, colorful, tropical hummingbirds, but also the slow motion style that reveals their elegant movements.
ALSO…please read my note below.

Many of us have probably had the experience of having blood drawn and having the technician ask us to make a fist. What does making a fist actually do? If you make a fist, it increases the prominence of the vein.
If pumping a fist does that, what can we assume happens to the legs of a cyclist in race such as the Tour de France?

One of the reasons I enjoy hiking is that it offers opportunities for interesting discoveries; some anticipated and others serendipitous. We were hiking along the Crescent Meadow Loop Trail in Sequoia National Park nearly a year ago when we came across a patch of wildflowers tucked away in a wooded area…
It was hard to believe that these were real. The colors were so vibrant and unusual in combination. It was an amazing sight. The next day we were on the Sunset Point Trail and there was a large swath of these wildflowers covering the entire hillside.
