A Man Named Ben, A Dog Named Denali – Video

Photographer Ben Moon and friends create a loving tribute to his dog and partner of fourteen years, Denali. If you are a dog lover or animal lover of any sort, I think you will have your heart strings tugged as you watch this beautiful video told from the dog’s point of view.

May Be the Largest Great White Shark on Video

Many people fear sharks and have reason to do so if they are in areas where these creatures normally roam. One thing I like to keep in mind, however, is that it is their planet as well.

Below is a video of one of the largest great white sharks ever filmed. The filming crew nicknamed here Deep Blue. She is a magnificent specimen and dwarfs one of the boats. Her extra large size, as the video suggests, is because Deep Blue is pregnant. Another interesting hypothesis is that she may be fifty years old.

“Deep Blue is one of the biggest great white sharks ever caught on film. Jaws Strikes Back, part of the Shark Week 2014 lineup, was filmed in partnership with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.”

Losing Our Marbles, But Having Fun

Jelle Bakker is an apt name for someone who creates a machine that leads us to believe we are losing OUR marbles. Similar in fascination to those domino chain reactions many of us love to watch, this is a virtual “Marble Tsunami” which I believe is called a Knikkerbaan.

I don’t know why so many people enjoy watching this type of controlled mayhem, but we do!

As Jelle says in the about page from his website:

“My biggest passion is making Marble Machines and Rolling Ball Sculptures, the marbles speeds through the tracks hitting bells, chimes, nails, woodblocks. My Marble Machines differs from other ones because of a cacaphony of sounds produced from the marbles and moving parts like tipovers, seesaws, levers and unique track parts like jumps, loops, funnels, pinball courses and more. My Marble Machines commonly made from wood.

My biggest milestone was setting the guiness record for the Longest Marble Run in 2009, unfortnately, it’s now broken by someone else. In 2012 i start building my first international project outside of the Benelux in the MAD Museum in Stratford upon Avon (UK), after it’s succes a second machine from me is now exhibited inside the darkroom, a Rolling Ball Machine with glowing balls lit by uv-LED’s.”

Apple World Gallery - iPhone 6

I make no secret about the fact that I am a long time, I mean really long time, user of Apple, Inc. products. I started with an Apple IIe and and Imagewriter and have had a number of Macintosh computers as well. I also own other Apple products besides computers so I am well committed to the Apple ecosystem; so-to-speak.

Having said that, I must also state that I have had several PCs too. I use them for a variety of tasks and my wife uses an HP as her main computer although she loves her iPhone.

I don’t get into the “computer wars” with my friends. Generally speaking, whatever one can do on a Macintosh could be done on a PC. At this time in the evolution of technology, the capabilities of operating systems is fairly equal and it is just a matter of preference.

One thing I must say about Apple is that, over the years, they have had excellent marketing. Their advertisements are usually top notch. They showcase their products and do so in some clever ways. Apple has set up a World Gallery of Movies shot on an iPhone 6.

Two examples appear below. They are very short and worth watching and if you like these two, you can visit the link at the bottom of the page to see others.

When Graduation Is More Like Halftime

From the YouTube video site:

Class song & “Kaipahua Kura

For those of you who messaged me for more info:

This is the senior class of 2015 at Kahuku High School located in Hawaii more specifically the North Shore of Oahu. The seniors learned this number in 2 days…they did a great job.

@8:43 they performed the “Kaipahua Kura” which is their very own “Haka” or “war dance” from the Maori people of New Zealand.

Kahuku High is a very culturally diverse school with lots of school spirit and pride. Good luck to them!”

Let’s salute the students, teachers, parents and advisors who had the courage to be different!

Congratulations Kahuku Class of 2015

Inventive Teenagers Improve Our World

As a member of an “older” generation, we often hear people decry the work ethic of today’s youths and the changes taking place within our society that we believe are negative. Of course our parents probably felt the same about the things we did “back in the day.”

Below is an inspiring video detailing how Easton LaChappelle, while he was still a teenager, began to design and create prosthetic limbs. Easton now has his own company and is working to make life better for many people who are challenged. I think you will find the video below very inspiring.

Marian Reekie has macular degeneration. When she found out that a Colorado company had electronic glasses that might be able to help her, she traveled to find out what they would be able to provide. Apparently the glasses were not what she was seeking and they cost $15,000.

Her grandson, Christopher Reekie – an eighth grader at the time, said he could create a pair of glasses for her. The video below shows how Christopher was able to initiate a Kickstarter campaign to create the visual enhancement that his grandmother needed.

What can you offer to help others who face challenges?

Through the Eyes of a Child – Video

Having an adventure alone is good, but the joys and thrills are multiplied when sharing it with someone. Better yet, seeing the world through the eyes of a child can remind one of the excitement of every day events.

This poignant video, The Years Are Short, brings that message home. I think it will touch your heart.

Champion Snowboarder Mike Basich – 250 Sq. Ft. Home

Mike Basich is a champion snowboarder who has learned to live by following the beat of his personal drummer. He built his own cabin in the woods, or more correctly on a mountain top near the woods. It is a very small cabin surrounded by 40 acres. He finds everything he needs in this 225 Sq. Ft. home especially with his beloved companion Summit!

In Mike’s own words: “I go to bed with the sun, and I wake up with it. I don’t feel like I’m trying to race time.”

Look at the pictures below to get an idea of how Mike has created his personal paradise and if you want more, watch the interesting video below that includes his snowboarding exploits, photography interests and connections with nature. Even if you have no interest in snowboarding, the video is worth the watch!

Can You Believe Your Eyes?

Zach King specializes in “Vines” – six-second videos that capture a particular segment of time. These short episodes joined together will demonstrate to viewers why one cannot always believe what they see. Don’t ask me how these were done. Just sit back and enjoy the video magic that will trick your eyes in most of the short sequences.

Thanks to Zach for making these mesmerizing videos and sharing them with us. One thing I would like to know is: “Who cleans up the mess left behind in many of these sequences?”
