SignEdge: Maybe Time for U-Turn!

Here’s a traffic sign you don’t see often. I suppose we should be in a good mood if we need to continue straight ahead!

SignEdge: Snakes Only!

Most of us have heard the phrase passive-aggressive. Well, I think the sign below is passive-assertive. My only concern is that there might be some who just don’t “get it.”

SignEdge: Feeling Tipsy?

Feeling Tipsy – Tip Jar at a local sports bar

What makes this sign rather “different” is that it serves as a double entendre since the picture was taken at our local Tailgaters Il Primo sports bar/eatery. Do you get the double entendre? I hope so because I think it is quirky!

SignEdge: A Race Even I Could Win – Non Marathon

I know you have seen them. They sometimes have 26.2 on them or perhaps only 13.1. They are car window decals espousing participation in, or at least an interest in or passion for, a marathon or half-marathon.

Well…the other day I came across a race that a septuagenarian like me has the potential to win. I think even I have a realistic chance at this one! What do you think?

SignEdge: Prisoner and Blindfold Wines

Blindfold Wine Label

The Prisoner Wine Company has some unique labels for their wines. A marketing student could develop an interesting thesis discussing the popularity of wines based on their labels. Do colorful labels attract more purchasers? Do macabre labels attract buyers? Do the names of the wines grab attention?

Yesterday I spotted a wine called Blindfold. The label appears to be of a man tied to a post being readied for execution. The label may be thought more suitable for a red wine while Blindfold is a white blend.

Blindfold Wine Label

“They thought if he couldn’t see the world, then he wouldn’t make his mark. But a blindfold won’t hold him back. It just heightens his other senses. And whether they like it or not, his resilience will leave a lasting impression.”

From the Tasting Notes:

“ABOUT THE WINE –

In establishing our own spin on a white blend, we seek out interesting Rhône and aromatic varietals that nicely complement a classic Chardonnay base. We partner with growers dedicated to cultivating alternative varietals in their outstanding vineyard sites to create an intriguing wine with bold flavor.”

The Prisoner Wine Company, has a self-named red companion wine called The Prisoner.

“The Prisoner crossed a line. He spoke out of turn. He took a stand. His brazen actions bred consequences. But while his chains may hold his weight, his mind wanders unrestrained. For he remains unapologetically bold.”

From the Tasting Notes:

“ABOUT THE WINE –

The Prisoner was inspired by the “mixed blacks” first made by the Italian immigrants who originally settled in Napa Valley. The Prisoner is now the most recognized Napa Valley red blend, leading the resurgence of interesting blends by incorporating Zinfandel with the unlikely”

I have written about other wine labels and companies (see the link below) that I found somewhat unique. Would you be attracted to try the wine by these particular labels? Feel free to leave your thoughts in a comment below.

While traveling through Tasmania, I noticed this sign that I had never seen before. It might be a bit confusing at first, but it simply means that there is a bump in the road.

SignEdge: Some Buzz about Bumble Bee, AZ

Welcome to Bumble Bee
Bumble Bee – A small, perhaps very small, town
Photograph ©Jeffrey B. Ross – 2017

About 55 miles north of Phoenix (just off I-17 at Exit # 248) lies the town of Bumble Bee. This was once a busy stop along the stage coach line that ran from Phoenix to Prescott. Now it stands as a ghost town.

At one time, the sign above may have been accurate, but according to the information I could find on the Internet, Bumble Bee has not been included in past Census counts so reliable information about the current population is a bit of guesswork.

One thing we can be sure of, the sign indicates the type of community it was during its last productive era.

You can find a bit more nformation about Bumble Bee via the Visit Arizona Website

Yes, Bumble Bee is legendary. If you want to find out why, read this page from Legends of America.

SignEdge: Hall of Fame Vodka

Months ago we came across this bottle at our local Costco.

Hall of Fame Unique Vodka Bottle

While this is not technically a sign, our curiosity was piqued because of our interest in unique beer and wine labels. It certainly is a good facsimile of a baseball bat for a vodka container. I am not endorsing this product and I am far from an expert in spirits, but I have to give Hall Of Fame Spirits credit.

Hall of Fame Unique Vodka Bottle

Here is part of the mission statement from their website:

“Our mission is two fold. First and foremost is to inspire the world’s best American-made Ultra-Premium Vodka. Second, is to create a distinctive brand that bottles and elicits all the intensity, emotions, valence and fandom that endears us to the game and makes us true sports fans!”

You can read more HERE!

They won an award in 2016 for the “Best of Class Platinum Bottle Design” as well as an award for “Bronze Vodka Taste.” – Read more about it HERE.

Hall of Fame Unique Vodka Bottle

Although Hall Of Fame Spirits can’t get a home run with this bottle-container, they may at least have a hit! Don’t you think this is a unique made-in Iowa idea?

I do enjoy clever visual puns and T-shirts. Add in my interest in hiking and landscape photography and one can understand why I had a smile when I came across this bit of creativity!
