Video: Children are our Future…Can You Name A Country?

I have to admit that I am not as good as I once was when it comes to naming and locating foreign countries on a blank map of the world. At one time, during my 30s-50s, I could probably name and point to a majority of the countries in the world. Once the Soviet Union broke up and new countries were formed, I just lost track. I admit, I should now know more than I do about world geography, but I do know a fair amount. I would venture to say I am at least average if not a bit above.

On the Jimmy Kimmel show the other day, they stopped people and asked them if they could identify just one country on a map of the world. I was surprised that there seemed to be a significant number of people who could not name and point to one foreign country. Some managed to name continents, but very few could identify a single country.

There is one bright exception in the video below; hence the title of this post!

Obviously, the video was edited and most likely they were very selective in the portions of the recordings they chose to include. I will leave it up to JBRish readers to draw their own conclusions.

Ahem! How many countries can you name?

Notes from the YouTube Video Page:

“Donald Trump is overseas visiting Belgium, England, Scotland and then his pal Putin in Russia. It is imperative that America has strong relationships with and knowledge about other nations, and that responsibility extends to all of us. So we came up with a test and went out on the street to ask people passing by, to name any country on a map. It didn’t go well.”
