Hello N. Phoenix Pickleball Players and Friends:
Just a quick note about several pickleball-related news items in our area:
Time Sensitive Item – A new Ashler Hills Park is being planned at Ashler Hills Drive and 74th Way. Details can be found at this link: https://www.scottsdaleaz.gov/construction/project-list/ashler-hills-park
Pickleball Courts are part of the plan!
I received an email from Chris Cummings of Sonoran Pickleball and Recreation Centers, Inc. (SPARC) about the Community Park proposed for Ashler Hills. They are suggesting that PUBLIC COMMENT IS URGENTLY NEEDED!! The public comment period is open until OCTOBER 21, 2021.
I like to encourage everyone to help expand pickleball opportunities whenever/wherever possible so more people can enjoy and benefit from our wonderful sport. If you play in-and-around the Ashler Hills area and would like to express your ideas, please read the attached PDF by clicking THIS LINK.
NOTE – I am sending this to our group so that everyone on the list can reman informed about relevant pickleball happenings in the area. I am not associated with SPARC or the city of Scottsdale.

Keep Your Eye On the Ball!
One comment I hear repeatedly when working with new players to show them the mechanics of the sport is that they have difficulty keeping their eye on the ball. Vic Braden, well-respected tennis coach, once said (and I paraphrase here): “Keep your eye on the ball until you hit it. If you miss the ball, the point is over.”
Here is a video with some routines to help you develop the skill/habit of keeping your eye on the ball.

and More Shots? -> Skinny Singles
There are a variety of ways to play skinny singles. In this particular variation note that the serving player’s score determines which side of the court is the “in bounds” or the playing side.
Not every point is cross court. Some are straight ahead.
