Hello N. Phoenix Pickleball Players:
Here are some recent items which may be of interest to area pickleballers.
NOTE – My pickleball is somewhat limited during June and July so if I don’t see you, I hope you have a healthy and happy summer!
Now for the news…
********** Summer Schedule Begins May 26 (+/-) **********
If you are unsure about the summer schedule call first!

It is my understanding that a final decision about the Monday evening time slot for pickleball during June-July at PVCC has not been firmed up yet. There was not a strong interest in league play so we wait to find out it there will be other pickleball opportunities.
Remember that the Community Centers are Closed for Memorial Day!
********** for North Phoenix **********
We know you like pickleball or you most likely would not be reading this newsletter, but there is more than that in store for other sports fans as well. If you have any interest in basketball, hockey, dodgeball, soccer, lacrosse, pickleball, ice skating and associated tournaments, then I think you will want to read the following story:
A Sports Legacy for North Phoenix
Thanks to Barb Patterson, President – Anthem AZ Pickleball Club, for providing a contact for the Legacy Sports Center.

The FLC will be closed on the 4th of July, Aug 6th and Aug 8th.
If you want to see Which Paddles the Pros Used at the 2019 US Open, click the link. There are pictures of the winners and paddles as well as descriptions at the linked PickleballCentral web page.
NOTE – These top notch players could probably win with nearly any quality paddle. It is still interesting to note, however, if one of the paddles is one that you use and/or is made by the company that produces your paddle. Also keep in mind that some of the players have manufacturer sponsorships!
Watch this well-played point by Sarah Ansboury, Tyson McGuffin, Suzee Anderson and Tyler Loong as Mark Renneson of Third Shot Sports discusses the tactics and skills:
BTW – Sarah Ansboury has an interesting take on the concept of “No Man’s Land” which she suggests is a carry-over from tennis. Sarah explains why the concept is not precise for pickleball and how it compares to the “transition zone” of pickleball. Sarah is not the only player to note this difference.

2019 Minto US Open
********** Pickleball Championships Winners **********
My bad! – I didn’t realize that the Minto US Open Pickleball Championships (which was so “widely” covered among the YouTube and Pickleball Magazine crowd) was NOT a USAPA sanctioned tournament. Apparently they did not have all the technical requirements to earn such a distinction.
Nevertheless, it is/was of much interest to pickleballers across the world because of the quality of play and the broad spectrum of top notch players who participated. If you are interested, you can find an inclusive list of all of the winners in the various categories at this link.

For those who would like to engage in a bit of PB fantasy, check out who won in a category you would most likely enter. You never know…this may be your competition some day! [smile!]
