Year of Yosemite (YOY) – Day 32 (Orange Peel Fungus)

XXXXXXXXWhat looked like discarded orange peel was actually a fungus

As we were hiking to and from Taft Point, the path was quite muddy in places because of the snow melt and previous rains. In several places we noticed what looked like discarded dried apricots or something similar. Upon closer inspection, it was obvious this was some type of fungus or mushroom. Sure enough, research indicated that it is Orange Peel or Orange Cup fungus.

“Whatever good things we build end up building us.” — Jim Rohn

“What do I want to take home from my summer vacation? Time. The wonderful luxury of being at rest. The days when you shut down the mental machinery that keeps life on track and let life simply wander. The days when you stop planning, analyzing, thinking and just are. Summer is my period of grace.” — Ellen Goodman

“What you have done is little compared to what you can do.[ed]” — Grant Cardone

“Nature abhors a vacuum… but not as much as cats do.” — Lee Entrekin

Year of Yosemite (YOY) – Day 31 (Majestic Yosemite Hotel Dining Room)

Majestic Yosemite Hotel Dining RooThe Majestic Yosemite Hotel Dining Room

For those who want a bit more luxury mixed in with the natural beauty of Yosemite, the Majestic Yosemite Hotel (formerly the Ahwanhee Hotel) provides an ample dose. Originally designed to appeal to the upper echelons of society, it was built in a grand style with as many amenities as possible. This type of construction has been dubbed “Parkitecture.”

Video – Seal and Fish Ballet Among the Surfers

Most readers will probably be too young to remember lava lamps and their somewhat hypnotic appeal. Much like trying to harness a pool of mercury this seal moves gracefully through a school of fish which manage to swirl in fluid patterns while making way the seal.

I think you will find this one minute (+/-) drone video interesting if not fascinatign. The surfers surrounding the ongoing ballet additional notes of interest.

Year of Yosemite (YOY) – Day 30 (Cathedral Peak)

Cathedral Peak - Yosemite National parkCathedral Peak photographed from Lembert Dome

After hiking to the very top of Lembert Dome, the panorama was spectacular. Standing out among the beautiful scene before me, however, was a distant Cathedral Peak with pockets of snow.

Year of Yosemite (YOY) – Day 29 (Hetch Hetchy Wooden Bridge)

A Wooden Bridge Along the Wapama Falls TrailThis small, wooden bridge along the Wapama Falls Trail in Hetch Hetchy conjured images of the era of John Muir

Most hikers enjoy a path or trail that has a canopy which offers some relief from the sun on hot days. On an overcast day it can also provide dramatic lighting and atmosphere. As you can see, this path was along the waterline of the reservoir and combined the best of the woodsy ambience along with a view of the lake. It was the perfect complement to the beautiful surroundings.
