Vide-Ohs: Amazing Hummingbirds

I feel fortunate to live in an area that attracts quite a few hummingbirds and some are year-round residents. The beautiful video below has some magnificent footage of these aerial acrobats.

Just as fascinating are all the facts about hummingbirds. Did you know they have the largest heart per animal size?

From the video’s website:

Over 20 amazing Facts about Hummingbirds. Slow motion footage of the hummingbird in Full HD. Great for school nature projects. Watch hummingbirds fly in ULTRA slow motion. Watch the humming bird (the hummer) hover and fly backwards in slow motion. Videos of hummingbird babies (chicks) being fed. Learn about the hummingbird tongue and it’s eating habits. Discover how fast it’s heart beats and how fast it’s wings beat.

The white hummingbird can be leucistic or albino. The leucistic hummingbird has partial loss of pigmentation so it’s not totally white and can be a little patchy in places. The very rare albino hummingbird is totally white with pink eyes, beak and feet.

The colibri (hummingbird) is a sacred bird for the Taino Indians because it is a pollinator and as such, brings life.

Dogs that Are Scaredy Cats

Almost everyone knows the phrase – “The bigger they come, the harder they fall.” Watching this video you can witness this platitude in action.

Cats and dogs are filmed in confrontations where size doesn’t always dictate which way the encounter goes. I think you will get a few laughs from watching these animal antics and if you watch to the end, you may see a few surprises!

Video: Line Riders – Beethoven’s 5th

I think everyone will enjoy this ultra creative cartoon-based version of Ludwig van Beethoven’s 5th Symphony. Most people may be familiar with the music because it has been used hundreds of times in movies, advertising, etc.

What sets this apart from other creative endeavors is the painstaking timing of the cartoon “line riders.” They are amazing and mesmerizing. Do yourself a favor and watch this.

From the YouTube Web Page

I spent over 3 months synchronizing a line rider track to Beethoven’s 5th drawing everything by hand.

Any time a character leaves the screen they are being directed by unseen lines to the next location.

This is not the full length of the piece. I spliced together parts to make it possible for me to finish the project in a practical amount of time. I don’t think my sanity could handle 3 more months of this song.

YouTube post processing seems to create a few millisecond audio delay if you are watching on the mobile YouTube app. If you notice this, watching the video in any web browser won’t have this problem.

Pickleball – 2019 Minto US Open Videos

Pickleball is a very popular sport and it is growing and growing. Although pickleball has been evolving for more than fifty years, it hasn’t reached full maturity. It is still finding its way in the sports and entertainment arenas.

The recent 2019 Minto US Pickleball Open, for example, had some of the best competition and numerous people would have like to watch many of the medal matches including bronze and gold contests in a variety of categories. Sadly, many of these were not broadcast live. Certain categories have not been placed on YouTube or Facebook, even though the championship was months ago.

To their credit, CBS Sports did televise some of the exciting gold medal matches (Thank You CBS Sports!). The unfortunate aspect of this scenario, as far s I can discern, is that this was not widely communicated in the pickleball world.

For those who might have missed the action and would like to view it, here (below) are as many videos as I could find online. Please bear in mind that the quality of the videos varies. I also want to point out that I tried to find matches in all age groups, i.e. women, men, young, senior etc. What I found was a limited sample of players represented in the current available videos. You can search on your own periodically as some of the videos may be released at a later date.

NOTE – Some of the Facebook pages have more videos listed and linked on the sidebar (right-hand side). You can watch those as well!

When weather or other obligations keep you from playing pickleball, you can watch exciting matches to see what the Pros do!

Video-Ohs – A Lone Dog Plays A Game on a Trampoline

This dog named Bear must really like to play catch. He doesn’t even need another animal or person, he just plays by himself as long as he has the trampoline.

This is the narrative from the YouTube page:

Bear the dog from California used his owner’s trampoline to play fetch with himself. After placing the ball on the mat, he ran underneath and nudged the ball into the air with his nose before catching it. The clever pooch never seemed to tire of the game which he invented when his human family stopped playing with him and left him to his own devices.

Vide-Ohs: Scaredy Cat Watches Horror Movie!

I think most people, whether or not they are cat lovers, will laugh at the video below depicting a cat “watching a horror movie.” I don’t know exactly what the cat was looking at, but the pacing, editing and sound effects will bring a chuckle to everyone!

If you are a cat lover, then hands down, you will appreciate this short clip.

Lifehack – A Secure Band-Aid Finger Tip

Did you ever visit a friend’s house and find that they use something in a unique or creative way? Or perhaps you see something demonstrated online showing how something considered trash can be turned into a useful tool. I think everyone likes to learn about Lifehacks and how to use things creatively.

I haven’t shared one in quite a while so I hope you find this technique interesting if not useful.

************************

The lifehack below is a Youtube video explaining how to secure a bandaid to a finger tip to prevent it from coming loose very easily. I think many of us have had this problem and will find this an interesting solution.
